I strive to show people a side of things that they don't usually see.

At night, the light changes, things are dark and people hurry where they have to go but I stop and look. I have found amazing colors and different appearances once daylight wasn't part of my images. Time becomes an issue because capturing images at night takes longer. With time comes movement, blurring, abstract forms that are usually solid juxtaposed with stationary objects. I've always been fascinated by moonlight and the stars. Capturing Earth's movement relative to these astral bodies has rejuvenated my interest in photographing outside of urban settings at night.

In the city, I seek the places that people ignore and avoid. They contain rich textures and colors, often augmented by the artificial lights of the environment that make for amazing scenes to capture. I am drawn especially to enclosed spaces. Alleyways, doors, under bridges, etc... I don't know why this is, but I always end up there. I am also drawn to areas that are enclosed but open at the same time, probably because of the space that they take up and show beyond their boundaries.

From a distance, flowers are flowers, pretty colors and shapes blowing in the breeze. Once you get closer though, they are landscapes in and of themselves with textures, lines and colors that go unnoticed by casual observers. Seeing the petals of an iris shimmer with an iridescent quality made me rethink my whole impression of flowers last summer and appreciate them for the intricate details and nuances that they possess.

I am working at becoming a more versatile shooter and am trying to get better with portraits and event photography. My focus has been architecture and spaces but my passion is night photography. In order to meet deadlines in college, I only had enough time to shoot late at night. I started taking long exposure photography seriously back in 2001 using Kodak 100v and later Fuji Provia 100F. I still shoot nights with 100 ISO for the fine details that are lost with higher speeds. Before my "break" from photography several years ago, I began exploring moonlight photography and look forward to shooting more of this in the near future.
