FRIEDEMANN DER TEPPICHWEBER
Textilkünstler in Wien, geboren 1946

Nach meinem Beruf gefragt, sage ich schlicht Weber, Teppichweber.
An sich gilt das was ich mache, draußen in der Welt als Kunst, Textilkunst,
aber ich persönlich fühle mich wohler, der Zunft der Handwerker zugehörig zu sein.
Als ein Mensch des Mittelalters mache ich keine Trennung zwischen Kunst und Handwerk,
und die Tätigkeit eines Webers ist nun einmal Weben, und Weben ist Handwerk.
Das schönste Handwerk der Welt.

Leben ist Weben, Weben ist Leben.
Es entstehen groß angelegte Wandteppich-Zyklen
von ausschließlich sakraler Thematik.
Als persönliches Regulativ Theaterarbeit
zu Gast im "Ensemble für Städtebewohner".
Parallel dazu Grafik, Malerei, Text und Fotografie.
Zur Zeit vor allem Text und Fotobearbeitung.
Drei Themen sind vorherrschend:
Narrenturm, Zentralfriedhof, Westbahnhof

Asked about what I do, I say that I am simply a weaver - a weaver of tapestries.
What I do is perceived by the outside world to be an art - textile art.,
but personally I feel better belonging to the brotherhood of craftmen.
Rooted in the Middle Ages as I am, I do not distinguish between arts and crafts.
After all, what weavers do is weaving, and weaving is a craft -
the most gorgeous craft in the world.

Living is Weaving, Weaving is Living.
My life`s work is creating extensive series of tapestries
solely of sacred themes.
For a personal counterpoint I do theatre work
as a guest at the "Ensemble für Städtebewohner".
As well as drawings, paintings, poetry and photography.
My present emphasis is on poetry and photo editing.
Three motifs dominate:
Fool`s Tower, Central Cemetery, Western Railway Station,
all of them in My Town.
