I was born in and grew up in Manchester, by the Sea, Massachusetts, USA. I went to school in Maine and attended the University of New Hampshire and then taught for two years in Waterville Vally, NH in a one room school. I then went on to grad school to Indiana University, Bllomington, where I studied political science, Middle Easter politics and international business. I took my exams, but never did my dissertation, instead working and going to Lebanon for what we thought was the end of the civil war.

I’m an analyst, a facilitator, a graphic designer and a writer and I’ve worked for Save the Children US, USAID and consulting firms in the Middle East and Africa. As of November 2009, I live in Kabul with my wife, Sylvia Vriesendorp.
