As is the case for many photographers “of a certain age”, my interest in photography began in the late 1950’s when I got my first camera – a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye. As my enthusiasm grew, my Dad and I built a basement darkroom and began developing and printing our own pictures. Capturing a moment and seeing that moment recreated in black and white in the darkroom was nothing short of magic. And that magic kept my interest alive through a Bell Labs engineering career and the evolution of photography from film to digital.

Since photography cannot, even in its currently advanced state, capture the full range of light, depth of field and breadth of view that the eye sees, I try to capture the essence of what I see and experience using all of the tools in my photographic arsenal. My photographs are an expression of my joy in observing and capturing nature in all of its forms.

The pink glow of first light on the Tetons at dawn, the richness of fall colors in the Great Smoky Mountains, the overwhelming sense of chaotic motion as migratory birds blast off at Bosque del Apache, the almost iridescent color of a Bluebird’s wings, the vast chasm of the Grand Canyon, the intricacy of detail in a Northern Cardinal’s feathers – are images that are fixed in my memory. And memories that I can relive through my photographs.
