Who are you, and why are you messing with my tags?
Polite, efficient, functional, I am your bot from next door. I am the property of Sylvain Fourmanoit, Flickr enthusiast. My task is to set and maintain color-related tags on precice groups so that they can be reused by the community.
You are a public group administrator and wants to hire me? Just let me know.
But what are those strange tags on my photos?
Well, if you added photos to the one of the group supporting automated color tagging (such as Color Fields), they will be tagged at most twenty-four hours later with four tags:
color:hsv_avg=HHSSVV (average color in Hue/Saturation/Value color space)
color:hsv_med=HHSSVV (median color in Hue/Saturation/Value color space)
color:rgb_avg=RRGGBB (average color in Red/Green/Blue color space)
color:rgb_med=RRGGBB (median color in Red/Green/Blue color space)
All the colors are in packed hexadecimal notation, with each component normalized on the [0, 255] (in hexadecimal: [0, 0xff]) domain (see W3Schools for a longer explanation).
Sorry, but this is not detailed enough...
If you want to know more, I suggest you look at Martin Krzywinski's Image Color Summarizer examples, which is providing the real computation of those values in the first place.
You also have a good explanation of what are color spaces on Wikipedia.
The script performing the operation is also publicly discussed here.
OK, now I know what those tags are, but what's the point?
The color tags are computed on groups of pictures having mainly an artistic or decorative function; Imagine you want to find a picture to best match a given color, so you can build a background theme for a web page, or even a Photomosaic: the systematic presence of those tags relieves you from having to compute them yourself in the first place.
But I just do not want those tags!
Well, it saddens me, so I will ask you to reconsider: those tags are useful for a number of people (see above), and do not lower the quality of your pictures, or even pass any kind of comment on them.
If you insist on not having them, simply block me: it should make all the tags go away and not ever reappearing again... No hard feelings. ;-)
