MODISMO MODISMO AN ANTHOLOGY OF PHO... By Various photograp... Make a photo book with Blurb Book Preview

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, transplanted to Chicago, and then Las Cruces, New Mexico. Currently live in Austin, Texas. I use a Canon EOS 40D with a big honkin' expensive lens but lately have relied exclusively on a Canon PowerShot G10 because it is relatively small and fits nicely in a large pocket.

A few years ago I primarily shot in 35mm and occasionally medium format. Now digital is catching up so I have retired my 35mm cameras.

I was active on Flickr a few years ago but went on a photo hiatus. I am now back and posting.

Here is my JPG page.

I have added a blog featuring some of my favorite photos posted on Flickr. Check it out here.

"Kurt is one of the most interesting photographers I know. He is in a small urban centre in the Southwest which limits the photographic palette. His home base doesn’t have the diversity of location and people that other photographers have in Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington and New York with national and state parks whose seasonal changes provide many opportunities.

Within this circumscribed world he carves out notable picture after picture. Few photographers can do this without drying up, and it’s the sign of an artist and truly imaginative photographer. Take a walk with him. It will teach you a lot. You’ll remember the journey."

"Kurt Nimmo's images continually call to mind the great documentary tradition of photography in a way that no one else on either Flickr or Fotolog comes anywhere close to. The combination of his consistently strong visual quality, his dead on mastery of composition and light, and his sense of compassion, of humor, and of irony are what separate him from everyone else in our digital realm. The consistency of his vision is to me inspirational. It's one thing to hit the jackpot once in awhile with a strong image, another to hit it time after time after time. In our digital era getting to see good black and white photography becomes more and more rare. Kurt's black and white images are stellar. Although he works less frequently in color, his color work is also very strong. What I love most about his work, though, are his compositions. It is as if he has made the rectangle his natural habitat. Thanks for sharing your vision with us, Kurt!"

"where does he find his subjects? his subjects are truly unique. it's like he lives in a different america than me... i think the answer is that his eye is that of a master... i just have to admit it."
