LATEST: My lovely Ruth has passed on her old Pentax K10D for me to play with which was very generous so I can now join the big boys league. Despite the hassle of changing lenses it's proving to be a very enjoyable journey of discovery!

I recently asked my beautiful girlfriend to be my beautiful wife - and, crazy girl(!), she said yes, so we are now engaged!! Haven't been this happy for a long time!!!

Writing my profile is not so easy for me I think because I am quite changeable so in a month's time I might read this and wonder who wrote it, so I will try to identify the unchanging aspects of myself.

I am always asking myself the big questions about life and perhaps gradually learning that the answers come through stillness and silence. [Ed. that means he doesn't really have a good grasp of what exactly is going on down here...]

I enjoy nature around me and despite being a fairly analytical person with scientific training, there are times when I am transported by the simple beauty of a natural form.

I am not a city mouse, but enjoy pictures of urban decay and subculture.

I am interested in the human form but I would rather paint this than photograph it.

I play guitar, anything from blues through flamenco to classical. Playing takes me to another place, a calmer place and I'm always daring myself to work towards giving a recital!

I am 40 years old with a young son, enjoy travelling and surfing (old guys rule - apparently) and have some great friends and the love of a beautiful woman [Ed. now your fiancée!]

I use a Canon Powershot S3 IS which I have been mostly pleased with but does have its limitations but I think for now I am happy to frame a nice shot and sacrifice a bit of quality.
