I've always been oddly obsessed with making documents of any sort - sound recordings, diaries, letters, lists, as well as photographs. For some reason I seem to be driven by an idea that if I make a record of something, that time will move less quickly, or that the impermanence of the world around me might be hindered ever so slightly. The other half of this condition is a different feeling that I have - not of trying to stop time or slow it down - but an anticipation, an excitement, a recognition of the electrical feeling of being somewhere, experiencing something, the unusual recognition of the NOW, and I suppose that photography satisfies one form of this kind of future homesickness, anticipating a time when this moment has passed, wanting to share something with someone (perhaps not even knowing who) at some later moment.

Thanks to Flickr for feeding these urges.

I teach literature; it's kind of a crazy profession, but I seem to enjoy it enough to not want to stop doing it. I love to travel, take photographs, and write.

On this site, I enjoy seeing so many great photos from other people who do the work of looking and seeing as they move through the world. I appreciate the exchanges I've had with others about these images and look forward to seeing many more and to being a part of the conversation that comes out of looking.

Regarding contacts: I'm interested in the potential for conversations about photography, and to be inspired, educated, moved, or otherwise provoked by images here. If you tend not to comment, post, or engage me in some way with your photographs or your communication, I may drop you as a contact; it's not personal, but one only has finite time on this earth after all, and must make good use of it.

    Funny Fish says:

"Brian's photos are quiet reflections of the world around him. Details, colours, light, shades or structures...... Its the world of a thinker and its a pleasure to dip into his world - to be part of this - just for a moment."
