This is a picture of me with my late grandfather taken in London, probably in 1960 or 1961. I think it's the first photo of myself holding a camera.


As a child, photographs were a very important part of my family life. It was how we kept in touch with those nearest to us. All my mother's family lived abroad, and some of my father's. Foreign travel was rare, but writing air letters and sending and receiving regular photographic updates were a weekly ritual. Family photograph albums were poured over; I would never tire or them! I still love old family photos (even other peoples') and have inherited my late father's collection. I intend at some point to have a website which features not only my personal and collaborative photographic work, but ideally some representation of family history too.

I've always been interested in both the theory and practice of visual culture. I studied History of Art at University of Sussex and went on to study photography at The University of Westmister. I have since been teaching and lecturing in visual culture and film studies to adults in addition to continuing ongoing visual projects on issues of identity, transience, contemporary culture and signs. I believe in developing all the senses and am also very involved with music and dance. Over several years I have documented behind the scenes with the choir i sing in: The London Lucumi Choir. I used to paint before I had children and I've gradually been making steps to returning to painting. Some of my photographic work acts as a kind of sketchbook. The images on my flickr page are predominantly drawn from digital work of the last few years. In 2010 I was shortlisted for the London Fringe Photography award.
