Say no to free P&P on ebay.

From 19th October 2009 sellers listing in selected media categories will be required to offer free P&P as their first domestic postage option.

The obvious detrimental effects for sellers are obvious and well known.

For buyers though this is not quite apparent.

The whole idea of free P&P is to attract more buyers to ebay.

No sensible buyer will really believe they are getting 'free' P&P.

Sellers will have no choice but to put their prices up to cover the postal costs AND to absorb the higher fees that this imposes in terms of covering ebay AND paypal costs.

There will also be difficulties when an item goes astray in the post, or is perhaps broken during the delivery process.

As technically no postage was paid, technically no-one is responsible for the postage process.

Whether or not a seller is good or bad, there will be a huge grey area as to the chances of a postal compensation being paid.

This 'free' P&P procedure is just going to cause problems for buyers and sellers.

Most sellers are now voting with their feet. over to ebid.net.
