"Whenever I give a talk about my work I am invariably asked who my influences are. Not what my influences are, but who. As if the gutter, misunderstandings, memories, sex, dreams, and books matter less than forebears do. After all, in terms of influences, it is as much the guy who mugged me on 10th Street, or my beloved dog who passed away much too early, as it was Giotto or Diane Arbus."

~ Robert Gober

when you see such photos, you can't help but wonder at just how sweet and sad and innocent all moments of life are rendered by the tripping of a camera's shutter, for at that point the future is still unknown and has yet to hurt us, and also for that brief moment, our poses are accepted as honest.

the longer i find myself playing with flickr the more i'm coming to love those images that are a bit off, experimental and perhaps a little flawed. sometimes, even more so than the "perfect photo." yet, i know i have learned so much from both camps.

i've come to conclude that all i'm doing here is simply documenting my journey through life. many images capture the present... and many are taken to remind me of those who have gone from my life but who i will never forget.

    Jason Lupi says:

"Billy's sense of character really come through his images. Fun, childlike, adventurous, inquisitive, compassionate, caring. Now how many more adjectives can I use here?!?!
I am delighted to have come across him and his big man T. One day, maybe in the real world, we can chat about 'stuff' under the open skies around a burning fire, drinking hot chocolate and see who could take the funniest pic of each other!! xox"
