"I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, I was really going in.” (John Muir)

I live in in a village about 8 miles south of Edinburgh at the foot of the Pentland Hills where I spend a lot of time, walking and looking at the rich natural history of the area. Many of the photographs I post will be of this local area which has been my home for 25 years. I also spend a lot of time exploring the coastal habitats nearby, and whenever possible, the highlands and islands to the north west. I am interested in all aspects of natural history and enjoy looking at, photographing and studying, the flora and fauna of Scotland.

I am not a great photographer, and many of the photos I post will be less than technically great, but they will all be speaking of things that, in some way or another, I have seen beauty in. The photos I admire of others', are, similarly, those that speak to me of what that person saw at that moment and what they were trying to convey - however imperfect. Writing this, I am reminded of a verse by Leonard Cohen which I think is very apposite:

"Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in."

'Anthem' by Leonard Cohen 1992
