Ramsey County is home to Minnesota's state capital — St. Paul — and more than 500,000 residents. Founded in 1849 on the banks of the Mississippi River, Ramsey County is Minnesota's smallest and most densely populated county. Ramsey County, the state's first home rule charter county, is named for Alexander Ramsey, the first governor of the Minnesota Territory.
