I'm an Irishman who lives in Norfolk, having settled there after leaving the RAF in 2003. I have a passion for landscape, scenic, cityscape and architecture photography, and even some portraiture. I do a fair bit of stock and microstock photography, and I also enjoy shooting my favourite sport, rugby and keep a photographic record of my local team, Swaffham.

So why do I take photographs?

Well, We live in an ever changing world where natural landscapes and scenes of outstanding beauty are constantly being replaced by cityscapes which bring their own unique aesthetic appeal. Where architectural styles evolve and change, striking stark contrasts between the old and the new, the natural and the artificial, the organic and the mechanical, and the beautiful and the grotesque.

Throughout history, these changes have been documented by artists and in recent years, by photographers and film makers. These snapshots capture a fleeting moment in time, never to be revisited, and create a valuable historical archive for generations to come. The closest thing we have to a time machine which can carry us back into our past.

As a photographer with a passion for landscape, scenic and architecture photography, I find this process very exciting, and have made it my mission to add to this archive by capturing a visual record of my short period of existence in the great river of history.

It's my hope that future generations will look back on my photographs of scenes and locations they know, and find the same fascination in the changes that I experience when I see 100 year old photos of my home town.

I shoot mainly using a Sony Alpha A200, with a Fuji S6500 as an emergency backup, and occasionally a Praktica BCA for when I get the old retro film cravings.
Processing is done in Photoshop CS3 and Photomatix for HDR's.

If you want to use my photos on your website or blog, ask me. I might surprize you and say yes.
But please don't just take them without asking. It's downright rude, and will result in you and me falling out.

Can I politely request that if you're leaving comments on my photos, you kindly refrain from leaving invitations to add them to various groups, and please don't add those annoying sparkly *award* graphics.

And lastly, I enjoy having notes added to my photos, but not ones for Crop Suggestions.
If I'd wanted the image cropped that way, then I would have cropped it that way before uploading it.

Thanks.

"there is absolutely no way a few words can do this man any real justice, for one sam is an inspiration without his help and input flickr would have been a passing fad.he is the life and soul of many a group and can always crack a smile out of folks on the rainiest of days!
he is a humble man never one to brag about his exceptional skill with the camera and post processing although everyone knows hes a legend in his field!
if people put half the enthusiasm that sam does into photography, rugby and beer into their own work thered be a lot of michaelangelos out there
"glad i met you mate cant wait for the meet up""

"I joined and use Flickr as a source of inspiration from people with diverse viewpoints on photography. I have found Sam's images, fascinating and HIGHLY inspirational. From his use of HDR, black and white work, long exposures and night shots to his brilliant retouching work on friends and family's old photographs lovingly scanned and reworked. It's strange, given our similar RAF analyst backgrounds in a small trade group, that we never met, but I have come to think of him as a mate I most definitely WILL meet one day.

Thanks for the inspiration as well as entertainment Sam and here's to our first beer together sometime soon!"

"Variety is the spice of life, and that's what you get with sam's photostream, from pets to boats, wonderful olde churches to docklands. In colour or B&W sam's photo's have great detail, show emotions and times that are changing.
He's a great person for sharing his knowledge esp with me and my shots of home in northern ireland and has taught me more about it since he looked at my photo's that i'd ever thought i'd know.
He's friendly, and helpful and has some pretty darn fabby shots to share, so go on have a peek, you know you want to!!!! Jx"
