The ALRC conducts inquiries—known as references—into areas of law reform at the request of the Attorney-General of Australia.
The ALRC has worked on ground-breaking inquiries covering areas as diverse as sedition, human tissue transplants, privacy, gene patenting, competition and consumer protection, maritime law, insolvency, insurance law, Aboriginal customary law, complaints against police, cross-border litigation and the confiscation of proceeds of crime.
Current inquiries are:
- Family Violence
- Royal Commissions
- Secrecy
All Australians should have a say in reforming laws that affect them. The ALRC encourages you to ‘Talk to Us’ and we look forward to receiving your feedback on our forums.
The Australian Law Reform Commission provides opportunities for interns to work alongside Commission members and legal staff. The ALRC also organises and sponsors the Kirby Cup Law Reform Competition, a unique opportunity for Australian law students to gain recognition for their vision for law reform.
