"Emeville exudes a gentleness in both his comments and his photography that I find on a constant level that is well above the average. The pleasant thing is that, while maintaining this surprising qualirty, he covers a very broad array of subjects, so there is always something new to be seen."

"Emeville, or Lucíen, appeared in my photostream in a gentle comment about a neglected photograph.. something that I liked a lot, but no one else had liked: he really spent time on it too, thoughtful comments. There were only a handfull of photographs on his photostream then, but each with something, a potential, an unusual way of looking at things.... and with impossible to type titles with all those "é"'s and "î"'s (he is Belgian; I Californian). Not one had more than a comment, hardly any had been viewed at all. There was "Bon génie" with a sweep of orange cloud and "Ciel d'orange" not quite square and a little unfocused -- but an early sign of his obsession with trees, and "Couchant" -- nine trees in silhouette against a soft, late sky, simple, elegant with fine detail and finally "Maguelone, Jour de marché, jourd'été" a weathered marble window ledge dotted with earthen pots, potted with brilliant colors of red and blue and green (and yellow). An extraoridnary photograph -- and no comments, no groups, no sets; gems hidden away in his photostream. Prod him as we might, those of us who have found him, -- I think of the indomitable Caracas -- we still have not sold Lucíen on the idea of self-promotion. And so you will have to find him yourself, perhaps by visiting the "Orange Commune" group. HIs trees have progressed through various phases, getting better and better -- the formal "Windy Hill," which can be found on Expore for March 5th. And the extraordinary "Impression of a Tree," which is in Explore for March 21st. I most like his splashes of color, of mixing reds with blues, in the canal houseboat "Trident" and his quiet umbrellas in "Les paraplueles... de Genève," and his roses. He really knows his colors. But if that was all, I wouldn't write a testimonial -- there are so many good photographers. I write because the term "lightness of being" was made for Lucíen -- delighted by things colorful, thoughtful, quite infectious, gently humerous. And because he has become a partner in crime in this adventure of Flickr."
