Born in Youngsville, NC, a sleepy little town that used to be in the country about 30 minutes north of Raleigh. When I was growing up, there was a lot of tobacco and soybean farming going on out there ... but these days it's just a bedroom community; as my dad says "only thing we grow around [there] any more is subdivisions." Discovered that I belonged in the Appalachian mountains some time before I was eight, thanks to my parents' frequent summer camping trips out that way. Finally moved to Black Mountain, NC in the fall of 2004, but relocated to Chattanooga, TN in July of 2006. Yeah, I still miss it.
Besides anywhere in the vicinity of Asheville, NC (down to around Murphy, NC) I love being in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas (my wife's grandparents live near Raymondville), Savannah, GA, and Baton Rouge, LA. I'd love to travel to Nevada, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, and Montana at some point in the near future.
I'm the lead developer for Engagency in Chattanooga, TN; I do development mainly with C# but I dabble in PHP, Perl, Ruby, Objective C, Atari BASIC, etc.
I'm a liturgical Lutheran (and a relatively new one at that, I was confirmed in 2002). I like visiting old church buildings (and even new ones that are well-built).
Politically, I'm libertarian, and I'm chair of the local Libertarian Party (Hamilton County, TN).
Oh, and I like photography. But you probably guessed as much. I was originally bitten by the photography bug when I was on my high school yearbook staff and I spent the time to learn how to properly use the Nikon 35mm SLR camera we had (while everybody else was content with the point-and-shoot cameras) but photography was too expensive for me then.
I had a relapse starting in late 2002 after my parents gave me a Kodak point-and-shoot digital camera for Christmas. It wasn't long before I realized I was the only crazy guy with a camera laying on my back or contorting myself into all sorts of weird positions to find a new and unique angle on some subject. A few years back, I upgraded to a Canon S3 IS, and at some point in the future, I'll probably upgrade to a DSLR of some variety.
I love shooting at night, especially in the 15-20 minute window that starts a few minutes after sunset when the sky turns a deep, beautiful blue.
