Some folks are drawn to the concept of ‘anything goes’, others just come over to be part of the bicycle anarchy and the canals. For Ricky leaving the docks and moving to Amsterdam with his little brother was all part of the plan to pursue his dream. While some follow the leader or the white rabbit Ricky followed the melody. This first brought him to his Surinamese roots. Not only did he sing, he played no less than 3 traditional instruments and he stroked them good enough to make your grandma’s hip pop with nostalgia.

From kawina he moved on to R&B and swingbeat or, as it’s known to some, the 90’s. That stole his heart long before house was even considered a mistress. At least… until the scene became all about the seen. It wasn’t until that one night when he heard DJ Roog spin at a beach party with MC Nova that he got hip to house. You may call it fate, think it was the salty sea breeze or you can rock a glitter glove and blame it on the boogie but from that moment on it became more and more clear.

4 years and many musical projects later this housecat is developing himself as the spinning gap filler between what you know and what you never realised you missed on the dance floor. Stay tuned as Montel mixes his clubby sound with soul and bass with funk. ‘Cause while some are just digging in the crates, he dives into the history, the genre and his ever growing vision..

If at one point a DJ saves your life, Ricky Montel will provide the soundtrack to celebrate the reincarnation of your good taste.
