I am a writer / editor / photographer / filmmaker and communications professional living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am interested in culture, art, art history, literature, poetry, film, semiotics, archaeology, theater, psychology, astronomy, energy, nature, and life, the universe and everything.
I've been taking pictures as long as I can remember, I made my first film when I was eight, and I still enjoy both mediums being a part of my daily life. I am an absolute enthusiast for the works of others, and especially enjoy the diversity of opinions and methods employed in image-making.
An essential early influence on my photography was 1989 Minor White retrospective "The Eye That Shapes," in which his "Mirrors / Messages / Manifestations" principal is beautifully elucidated. White believed that, in picture-taking, our observations are made along a continuum of three successive levels: on the first level, we frame and observe; on the second, triangular level, we feel; on the the third, circular level, we transcend.
