At least 50% of a shot is luck.

I aim to take meaning-driven photos of ordinary people in ordinary environments. Interactions, relationships, expressions, contrasts, tensions, inconsistencies and symbols - these are what catch my eye or, quite possibly, my unconscious mind. Eyes catch my eye. They say so much. In a phrase, I seek the visual poetry of the mundane. Not the shocking. Not the exceptional. And not beauty for it's own sake. These may be worthy subjects, but connect to neither my motives nor my skills. I find myself drawn more to questions of social norms, rules and values; to emotional states and expressions of aspiration and doubt; to human communication, intended and not.

But it's not all so serious - some of my images are just fun or weird or pretty or, in a few cases, visually interesting.

I shoot with a Nikon d7000 with a 24mm 2.8 Nikkor and also carry a Lumix DX-5. My dear D200 is now resting quietly in the closet. That sound you hear is my wrist breathing a sigh of relief.
