Gives snippets of my story of photography as a spiritual disciplineMy Story – Worldly Holiness

For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed photography as a form of creative expression and a path to connecting with God.
Expressing myself with pictures has…
Uplifted my spiritual journey….
Served as the pen for my journal….
Helped record and contemplate daily life, both the good and the bad….
Gain perspective in difficult times….
Soar with gratitude and awe….
Overwhelmed me with the beauty and sense of wonder as an image unfolds before my eyes.

I experience much of the world at first pass visually and intuitively. I often have to go back to read text on road signs and manuals if I don’t get it the first time, which can be a challenge if I’m driving fast or putting together a complex piece of IKEA furniture. I travel a fair amount for my work to places beyond the tourist’s guidebook, often cross-culturally, and like to build bridges between people and places that normally do not connect. I aspire to be a peacemaker, following the instructions of Jesus Christ in the Sermon on the Mount. I love bright colors but also the contrasts in a good black and white photograph. Interesting architecture, both classical and modern, catch my eye as well. All of this has the potential to be found in these pages. I hope to inspire with these visuals.

Here are two quotes from a master that capture my sentiments about photography:

“The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.”

“My soul can find no staircase to Heaven unless it be through Earth’s loveliness.”

    L-T-L says:

"Papalars is a relatively new, but very valued, Flickr friend. I happened upon his photostream, as so often happens, purely be chance. But I am really pleased to have done so.

I find his photos to be varied in subject matter and consistently captured with real skill. His ability to "see" and then present unusual, interesting, evocative and highly ordered scenes is extraordinary.
These abilities coupled with his driving desire to "build bridges" across religious divides enables him to bring a very unique perspective to all his work.

Thank you Papalars for the enrichment you bring to the lives of so many."
