The concept of play is one that has many layers of meaning – it can invoke a sense of fun, childhood, collaboration, interaction – but it can also have more serious connotations – to ‘play’ someone, to con them, play as in to act, a strategy.

The common thread however that runs throughout all of the meanings is one of engagement. It is engagement and play that encapsulates this exciting Contemporary Asian Art Programme at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, which runs until January 2010.
