"Holden Richards; what to say about Holden that's not been written before?

I'd suggest that if you want to shoot BW film you look at Holden's work very, very closely. Everything you would ever want to know about composition, technique, film, developing, printing and much more is all there right in front of you.

Go through his work, then go through it again. You'll find even more the second time. Remember to say hello and leave a note or two when you look at his work and remember to help others like Holden's helped you. It's karma and it's good for you and film photography too."

    Kees van Mansom says:

"I follow Holden's stream quite a while now and he still manages to surprises me with his unique view especially on rivers and creeks but also on more urban subjects. I think he has a real talent for making something extraordinary out of the ordinary and presents it in beautiful - pure - B&W. This makes it a real joy to follow his stream."

"I like a lot of your work better than a lot of the work of Ansel or Weston. I don't think I am going out on a limb when I say you are one of the very best BW photographers on Flickr, or not on Flickr. That is my opinion based on having observed and studied photography closely for 35 years or so. No, I did not do my own darkroom work, however I have studied it. I have a library of over 200 books on photography and I subscribe to ten photo magazines (down from 14) and have read photo zines for 35 years, and have read all sorts of Net photo sites for years. And, as you know, I make black and white prints, only they are digital prints. However, I have won awards for them and have had 7 in Black and White Magazine. Just saying, I think I know a little about fine art photography. Your work is truly excellent. It is very difficult for me NOT to fave everything you upload here. It truly amazes me the number of wonderful captures you have from the creeks and rivers in your area, and of course the old buildings in your area.

It is a pleasure to have you as a contact."

"I've enjoyed Holden's photography for a while now and his power of expression and precision of imagery just keep growing and expanding. He works magic with film, taking us on journeys of discovery and exploration to places and things past and present, melding the two into a tapestry that speaks to the unconscious as beautifully as to the eye. I watch, I imbibe and I constantly learn from his work."

    Ann Marie Simard says:

"Holden's talent is a rare one, merging purity to power of vision and strength of feeling all in harmony and balance. His artwork presents a vision integral to itself, for the world. Working for a common purpose, for the uniquely common, like me, everything in this vision rings and reads true, in a unified view to the whole. Spiritual in the physical world, rendering a vision from the inside out, this epic stream flows from a source which is an essential combination of generosity, depth of feeling, wisdom, sincerity, and the gift of finding truer meaning every day."

    wintergarden - hibernating says:

"Holden is an accomplished multi-talented artist and photographer, and it is a pleasure to visit his always elegant stream. His scope includes photography of nature, rural and urbane settings, sometimes a mixture thereof, all executed with exceptional compositional skills, subtlety, balance and grace. From digital to analog, his photography shows these same constant qualities in artistic photography in the truest sense of the word. Never going for the cliched, harsh, or overblown, his photography shows exceptional equilibrium and a gentle way of seeing the world. These qualities of subtlety, insight and gracefulness also shine in his comments. Here's a stream you should not pass by, by a photographer and a person worth knowing. Thank you for sharing glimpses of your world with us."
