I-GO Car Sharing (www.igocars.org) is a non-profit, Chicago-based membership organization whose members have self-access to shared vehicles in more than 30 neighborhoods across Chicago, Evanston, and Oak Park. Members don't pay for gas or insurance, and I-GO provides the reserved parking locations where the vehicles -- all low-emission and fuel-efficient -- are situated. We are affiliated with the Center for Neighborhood Technology (www.cnt.org), a MacArthur Foundation Award winning urban-sustainability research and policy think tank. I-GO advocates lower car ownership as a means of lower automotive costs and harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Half of the cars in our fleet are hybrids, and we also have begun to experiment with converted plug-in electric cars. We are planning to add electric cars, along with solar-canopy charging stations, in 2011 and beyond.
