Dog Loving, 50+, aspiring happy snapper. Enjoy walks in Lancs/Yorks with my wife & 2 dogs - Ruby (the saluki/greyhound) & George (a terrier of very mixed parentage) region.

I was diagnosed with Neck Cancer in 2005 and throat cancer in 2006. However, Radical Neck surgery and Radiotherapy have kept me cancer-free since. I returned to work as a College Lecturer after 12 months, but was then made redundant. I am now taking a complete break from all of that, and waiting for a full clearance in December 2011. My outlook on life has completely changed, and there should be an element of celebration in my photos, particularly with the dogs and my wife, who were at home with me when all of this was going on, and helping to keep me sane!

I have always taken snaps of the dogs, and places where we have been - touristy things really. But, we now get to places which take us away from the 'flip-flop walks' and to places which are worth photographing in the sense that they could be fairly remote. My health issues have also prompted me to record these places more for their atmosphere and 'feeling', than just as a postcard. Some of the photos may, for example, record a particular milestone - a climb I couldn't have done a couple of years ago. So, I thought it was time to try to do it more properly - hence the recent Nikon (April '09)

I have Paint Shop, but only really use it to tidy my photos up. I 'm still not sure whether I am happy to produce something I haven't actually seen. But, perhaps to enhance the 'feeling'. If my photos seem a little grey, it is nothing to do with my mood - I just live in a grey part of the world!

Love the Dales where we usually holiday with the dogs, but there's plenty of places close to us such as Pendle Hill, Malham Cove, the Ribble Valley, Hebden Bridge, St. Annes and Hardcastle Crags. The dogs travel everywhere with us, which can be a little uncomfortable for the big dog, when we have 2 weeks kit in the back of the car along with her.
