I'm Brooke Schmidt, and I've always been an artist and loved the outdoors. My husband is a nurse and together we live in a little house in pennsylvania with our dogs, donovan and lucy, our cat mimi, a garden, a small canoe ~ and a baby on the way, arriving sometime at our home late this june, when the roses are in bloom, the nights are warm, and we are all going barefoot all day.

I collect pyrex, feathers, painted japanese teapots, hand-carved wooden animals and embroideries of birds. I listen to books on cd read by british readers. At night I often find myself walking outside to check on the stars. I keep lists of the books I read, bake often, and grow hops, beets, lavender and nutmeg thyme in our garden, among the flowers.

We camp often, hike oftener, and make the dogs carry books in their backpacks when they are too spunky to be believed (or kept up with.)

I work in a little white studio in my house with a round woven rug on the floor, the cat at my side and a mess underfoot. My degree is in painting but I mainly work nowadays on my works on paper, sewn collages, and sculptures from unusual materials (feathers, thread, cocoons, resin, beeswax.)
