BSOWS is located within the inner suburbs of the City of Birmingham, UK, approx 4km south of the city centre. It is sited on the flood plain of the River Rea on the edge of an extensive area of open parkland and woodland. The altitude of BSOWS is approx 118 metres above sea level.

Weather observations are made daily and the data uploaded the the Met Office Weather Observations Website.
BSOWS contributes weather data to the COL organisation (the Climatological ObserversLink) which publishes a monthly bulletin for all meteorologists and those interested in the weather.

In the past BSOWS has published daily weather reports and images on Flickr but as from 1st December rather than publishing routinely BSOWS will only be publishing images and reports relating to significant weather events.
