In college, despite my best attempts, I had a professor who would always tell me, "You can't lead with a quote." What have I done here? I led with a quote, albeit one that I think really hits home about what motivates me with my photos and pushes me to take them (or let them take me) further.

I have heard photographers talk about the differences between their professional and "personal" work. To me, at least, if done well, all of one's work should be personal. What you see here are the galleries of my personal work.

The story behind many of these images is rooted in the experiences I’ve had through baseball. When I was 15 years old (I know, I know, you've heard this before, "His uncle bought him a camera...") Nope. When I was 15, I was umpiring four Little League games a weekend for $25 a game.

After four years in the freezing (Go 'Cuse!), and six months behind a desk, I decided to enroll in the Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring. That was January of 2004.

The 2009 season was my sixth and last as a professional umpire, and there’s just something about 200 days and 9,000 miles a year on the road that I'd just had enough of. Baseball has shown me sunrise in Tennessee, moonrise in Sedona and fed me barbecue in Birmingham. Then there’s that time in Maine, with the 17-innings and 30-degrees…or the time in New Jersey when we had a cow delay...
