Bernardo Medina-Colón has been passionate about art throughout his entire life. The development of Medina as an artist has been a process that has taken many years of study. Starting with experimental sculpture and moving on to acrylics, Bernardo has worked many styles and techniques. Ten years ago he first experimented with mixed medium and it became his passion. His work became an expression of love, considering he gave away many of his works to his closest friends as meaningful gifts on special occasions. He also makes good use of objects found along his journey and incorporates them in his composition: abstract pieces with strong color. It was Sylvia Villafañe from the Petrus Gallery who saw the innate artist’s potential giving him the opportunity to expose his art.

He debuted in 2006 in a charity show called Fly Hi, a collective exhibit in which the artist drew inspiration from his local and international travels to convey his message. His work consisted of airplanes of various shapes with many-colored accents and advertisements from vintage magazines.

At the beginning of 2008 he made his solo debut with a show called AZAR (“CHANCE”), which highlighted the element of coincidence in all kinds of human relationships, from that of coworkers to friends and family. Hearts of different shapes and colors were the main theme of this show. He worked on Carnival Hearts in which he experimented with gliceé.

2009 has been the year of internationalization for Bernardo. He will have his first show outside of Puerto Rico at the Edgar Ace Gallery in Miami, Florida. He will also exhibit his work in Buenos Aires, Argentina in May. Meanwhile, candies will be his protagonists in the exhibit Candy Me in March in The Petrus Gallery.
