  Die große Zahl der Zuschreibungen berührt Fotografie nur am Rande, ohne das Unbekannte fassen zu können. Wenn wir es beim Namen nennen, kommen wir Fotografie nicht näher, sondern versuchen lediglich ihr ein Schema aufzuzwingen.
  
  Man könnte vielleicht dort ansetzen, wo Fotografie bereits entschieden konstatiert worden ist, nämlich deren ausschließliche Ausrichtung an dem, was gewesen ist. Mit dem Prozess der Bildwerdung präsentiert Fotografie Gegenstände und Menschen als Erscheinungen eines früheren Jetzt. Die Beziehung zur Vergangenheit ist auch der entscheidende Punkt. Sie ist nicht nur das zentrale, sondern gleichsam auch das einzige Objekt, das der fotografische Blick fixiert. Ihr Bestreben ist, die Zeit anzuhalten.
  
  Ich denke, Deine Fotografien sind in diesem Sinne Zeugnisse Deiner vorher gedachten Vorstellung an eine ganz bestimmte Pose, an einen bestimmten Ort, an eine bestimmte Stimmung, an ein ganz bestimmtes Licht... Dadurch wirken Deine Bilder und deren Bildaufbau so authentisch und auf ihre eigene Art melancholisch. Denn man wünscht sich diese Pose, dieser Ort, diese Stimmung und genau dieses Licht könnte unendlich andauern, wissend, dass es unmöglich ist."
