SIRA is a non-profit organization incorporated in Illinois. Based in the Midwest, it also has volunteers in Arizona and Florida. SIRA's mission is to educate the public on the Shiba Inu breed and the importance of responsible dog ownership and to rescue abandoned, neglected, and abused Shiba Inu, Shiba Inu mixes, and other primitive dog breeds from commercial breeders, animal shelters, and owners. SIRA evaluates each rescued dog for health and temperament and places each dog in a reputable foster home where all medical and other needs are met. Finally, SIRA places each dog in a thoroughly screened and loving forever home and serves as a resource to the adopting family.
