I'm a journalist working for the Norwegian newspaper Nationen, "The Nation", covering international affairs with a particular weight on Norway's relations with entities like the World Trade Organization and the European Union.

Through no fault of my own, this suddenly lead to me being thrust into the world of press photography. You see, sending the journalist out with a camera from the junk box is way cheaper than paying an extra ticket to send a photographer along for the ride.

I've been on two trips thus far, to Iceland and to India. And I've been taking a lot of photos. Now, these photos generally suck. I have about five minutes of training, total, and don't know how to use most of the basic functions other than "point the camera" and "click the little button". I do a bit of "twist the wheel", but that doesn't always end out spectacularly well. But as I said, there are a lot of those photos, and I feel that junking them all except that single one that's decent enough to get into print, is a shame.

Not that a lot of people in the world are interested in mediocre pictures of Norway's minister of agriculture and food. But hey. Maybe some are.
