Hello there! I am a returning amateur photographer interested in architecture, design and the urban environment. I am fascinated by the usual and also unusual, the little things that make up everday life. Originally from Penarth, I have now returned and recently settled in Cardiff (one of the best cities around). I had been studying in Cambridge and recently Bristol, after having lived in Brighton and London ( In a few architectural icons luckily, such as the Alaska Building in SE1).
I am now a University lecturer in Twentieth Century Design, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, travel widely giving talks, acting as a design consultant and advisor, and writing, both articles and a possible few books.
I am currently in the process of compiling an up to date Gazetteer of Twentieth Century houses of good and/or original design within the much ignored area of Wales (Removes tongue from cheek ).
I am intrigued by numerous discoveries of Modernity from the 1930's in South Wales and am in the process of recording them and discovering more. However my personal favourites are particularly from the 1950's onwards, with a particular interest in 1960's through to 1980's houses from local architectural practices such as the Dale Owen Partnership, Hird and Brooks, T,G,Jones and J.R.Evans....... let me know if you know of any !
The large, well known and more iconic houses, like gardens, have their champions but others are often overlooked and thereby more vulnerable! So, I enjoy researching architects that few have ever heard of and the houses they have left us to enjoy, wherever they are! A seemingly endless pursuit, that like my love of late twentieth century design which I collect, I seem to never tire of !
