Lady of leisure, retired very early, just filling in time really with nice things like shopping, eating and going to places.

I take a lot of photos and have been at it since 1965. But I still wouldn't claim any special talent or expertise! I went digital in 2000.

Nowadays I mostly use a Leica D-Lux 4, which is small and light, fits nicely in my handbag, and can be with me at all times. I am a great believer in the maxim that 'the best camera is the one you always have with you'.

Until sold, I did use a Nikon D700 with the f/2.8 24-70mm zoom lens - which was bulky, too heavy to carry around all day, and very awkward to 'wear' with any kind of nice outfit. You can see that I put comfort, convenience and appearance before anything else. However I will say that the little Leica is a superb picture-taking machine, with adequate scope for creative shooting. But its eventual replacement - also with a fast lens, and still light in weight - will definitely have a larger sensor for better tonal range and the ability to crop more severely.

I've got a blog - just search 'Lucy Melford' on Google and you'll find it.
