Greetings Global Neighbors,

I started into using Flickr as the web-based photo repository for an on-line history project I have been building. I thought I was writing a book, but it has morphed into something more.

Though I didn't know it at the time, the project started in 1998, when I first encountered an amazing set of stone walls, in West Salisbury, Vermont USA. I later learned the are part of the grounds of an estate called Shard Villa (1872-74).

I have worked the last few years on visiting, shooting, uploading, captioning, tagging & organizing related photos, highlighting the architect (Warren Thayer), the builders (George & Clinton Smith – father & son), and the landscape architect (Robert Morris Copeland). I have designated geotags on a custom, interactive Google Map. The majority of my Flickr shots are documentation in support of the history project.

I paid no attention to the other 2 billion pix, or what I am coming to understand as the Flickr community. To my surprise & delight, all that began to change as people began to comment on my shots, and invite my work to their "pools" ... What? ... Well, needless to say I'm figuring it out. I've joined groups, uploaded all sorts of shots, made a growing list of contacts & friends.

I'm seeing and learning SO much more about this wide, wild world, through your eyes.

And, my own photography is getting better. Thank you all. ♥ …
