La passione per la fotografia l’ho ereditata da mio padre che dentro la sua eliografia aveva la camera oscura per lo sviluppo e la stampa dei disegni tecnici. Mi ricordo che c’erano delle grandi vasche, una per lo sviluppo una per il fissaggio ed un’altra (praticamente una vera e propria vasca da bagno) per il lavaggio in acqua corrente. Tra gli odori dell’ammoniaca dell’eliografia e quelli degli acidi sopra citati io avevo un piccolo ingranditore dove provavo a stampare le foto di famiglia, avevo 7 anni, era il 1974.
Non posso non cominciare con questo ricordo perché per me è stato lì che ho cominciato ad amare ed apprezzare non solo la fotografia ma tutto ciò che c’è di “bello” anche nella vita e faccio fatica a capire quando vedo tanta “leggerezza”, “superficialità” mediocrità insomma.
Io mi reputo un vero e proprio “dilettante” anche se oggi abbiamo perso il significato di tante parole ed essere dilettante può voler dire un’altra cosa, bene! io sono un dilettante che fotografa, che legge, che ascolta musica, che suona e che fa tante cose che sono legate ad un concetto di bellezza che c’è nella vita che io chiamo scintille (se pur piccole) ad immagine e somiglianza d’Infinito.

Il “brutto” e il “bello” sono delle realtà che proiettiamo da noi stessi pensando che non ci appartengono, l’artista è colui che sa vedere il bello dove gli altri non lo vedono perché è il primo lui c’è l’ha dentro.
Grazie ad amici così sono riuscito a “sopravvivere” io che artista non sono.

I have inherited my passion for photography from my father. In his heliography he had a dark room for processing and printing of technical drawings.
I remember there were some broad tanks, one for processing, another for fixing and a third one (a real bathtube) for washing in running water. Amongst smells of ammonia, the helyography itself and all those acids, I tried to print pictures of my family with a small enlarger. I was only seven. It was 1974.
I cannot but starting from this memory, as it was at that time that I started loving and appreciating not only photography but the beauty itself which permeates life and I find it difficult to understand so much shallowness and mediocrity.
I consider myself a proper amateur, even though nowadays “to be an amateur” may mean something else. Good! I am an amateur who takes pictures, reads, listens to music, plays and does a lot of other things linked to the concept of “beauty” which permeates life. I call this beauty “tiny sparks” of the higher beauty of the Infinite.
“Ugliness” and “beauty” are realities living within ourselves, even though we think they do not belong to us. The artist is the one who can see beauty where others cannot, as beauty is within himself.
Thanks to such nice friends I could “survive” – me, a man other than an artist.
