I have always enjoyed photography and for reasons unknown have got hooked on bird photography in recent years. It gets me out in nature and I find it very challenging - sort of like hunting (but without the killing bit) I guess.
I use a Canon 40D and an L series 100-400mm lens. I also tinker with a bit of landscape and other stuff from time to time.

My valued contacts will note that I have recently changed my screen name, I mean "south_roger" was not the most inspiring really was it. My surname is South and I take mostly birds, hence the logic behind the new one.

All rights reserved - i.e. please don't pinch my pics, ask first. Regarding use of my photos I am happy to let you use them for any non-commercial purpose without charge (provided I haven't sold the photo for exclusive use elsewhere in which case they're not available). BUT if you are using my photos for a commercial purpose, then I do charge. Put simply - if you get paid, I get paid. Tis only fair after all, :-)

"Ive known Roger for some time now as an aquaintance on Flickr. Only recently however have I had the pleasure of meeting him in person. Roger I have to say is a quietly accomplished photographer. His images are par excellence and remind me of the magic of looking at National Geographic Images. I have always loved Rogers images of our feathered friends. He is an inspiration to those of us too lazy to make the walk, get up early and carry our equipment to a remote location. All we see is the end result that Roger has waited for patiently and composed carefully. Above all from the single time that I met Roger I have to say he is a top notch guy as well."

    Ray Tomes says:

"Roger is a superb bird photographer. I am sure that this must require great patience, good equipment, fast reflexes and very steady hands. His photos of birds and nature are always crystal clear, have excellent composition and colour so that it is awfully tempting to hit fav on all of them."
