Essex County Council is one of the largest and most ambitious local authorities in the country and one of the top performing councils in England. With a £2 billion turnover and over 37,000 staff, Essex County Council is a dynamic and innovative organisation, committed to making a difference to the 1.4 million people of Essex.
Our responsibilities and challenges are huge: from social care, waste, recycling, economic development and regeneration, community planning, transport, and schools, to international partnerships, sport development (including the 2012 Olympics), libraries, policy development, heritage, tourism, and emergency planning.
EssexWorks is our vision for the best quality of life in Britain. Launched in February 2008 after extensive consultation, this four year programme is based on our citizens' priorites - ensuring that we focus on the things which are most important to them.
Putting the customer first applies to everything we do as an organisation. It is Essex County Council's overarching priority as we work to deliver the best quality of life in Britain - providing excellent services and securing the future of our County.
