"Caroline's photostream is inspirational. Many of her shots communicate on a range of levels, and they continue to haunt long after you've left the site. The photograph of the girl in the white dress springs to mind. Is she floating away to a better place, or has she hanged herself to escape from the bleak landscape she inhabits? There's a feeling of timelessness to many of the images, which gives them a universal appeal.
Having said that, it's clear that Caroline is 'speaking' from a feminist perspective. In the 'People First' set your eye is drawn to the image of the girl holding a sign reading "Set Her Free" and that's the feeling that many of these shots engender. They show images of female entrapment - of women crouched in corners or reduced to being silhouettes and shadows lost in extreme long-shot landscapes; trapped in or escaping from, tubes and tunnels. I love her work, and can't believe that she is so new to photography. I can't wait to see where she goes from here!"13th June, 2009
