I am semi-retired (book publishing industry), living with my lovely wife and best friend, happily married for 45 years at end of 2011. Yep, we made it. Let the good times roll !

We live in Sydney, Australia. One of the world's most beautiful cities. Sydney Harbour is a photographers delight. We love to hop on a Sydney Ferry and ride in style to Circular Quay and wander around the Sydney Opera House area. Maybe have a leisurely stroll around
the adjacent Botanical Gardens. Watch the talented array of buskers performing, a lot of
them are visitors to Australia, everything from Peruvian and Vietnamese music to daring
Unicyclist jugglers, indigenous Australian Aboriginals playing the haunting didgeridoo.
As the ferry glides into 'The Quay' we check out the latest new cruise liner moored at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) in the historic Rocks precinct. We mostly have an
'al fresco' meal at one of the many fine outdoor restaurants scattered about. Then just
after dusk or later, grab a return Ferry back home.
A delightful way to spend a sunny day and only 30 minutes from our home !!

Circular Quay encompasses the whole of Sydney Cove, the European birthplace of our
country, where on 26th of January 1788 a number of convict transport ships landed their
human cargo of thieves, prostitutes, horse-stealers & other criminals from English jails
plus a detachment of Royal Marines all under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip.
From these inauspicious and humble beginnings and a motley bunch of First Settlers,
and all those who followed them that our young nation of Australia was forged.

Visitors to Circular Quay (Sydney Cove) will be amazed to learn that the entire shoreline of this U shaped Cove, from the world famous Sydney Opera House to the equally famous Sydney Harbour Bridge covers a distance of only 2 km, about 25 minutes walking time !!

You reckon that I'm a proud Sydneysider and equally proud Aussie ? You can bet on it !!!!

My beautiful wife is being treated for breast cancer. She is having chemotherapy at present and will undergo radiation treatment in mid-August for 6 weeks.

UPDATE....November 2010
After a very stressful time for all concerned, the radiation treatment over 6 week period has
been completed. Along with initial chemotherapy, it looks like this journey is finally coming
to a successful conclusion.
The oncologist has given a very positive post treatment prognosis. Regular yearly checks
of course....but now it's on with our lives.

Do you or your female partner do regular breast self-examination? If not, you should, as this is part of managing life-long breast health and all of us (men too!) should be aware of how our breasts normally look and feel. If you notice a lump or any other change, including discharge from a nipple, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Breast Awareness at a glance:

* Find time to check your breasts regularly.
* Look at your breasts in the mirror at the size and shape.
* Feel your breasts in the bath or shower, lying down or when getting dressed.
* Feel the entire breast tissue from your collarbone to below your bra line and into the underarm.
* Feel near the surface and then deeper using the flat part of your fingers.
* If you notice any changes, see your doctor immediately.
* If you’re over 40, have a free screening mammogram every two years (in Australia).

My wife's breast cancer was detected as a result of her yearly breast mammogram.
