I really became interested in photography from my work with the hybridizing of Gladiolus flowers. For years I had to take slides of those that I developed. Some of these slides had to be sent to commercial gladiola growers in many country's. It became very important to me to produce as accurate of a photograph as possible so their form and color were as close as possible. I found that film almost always imparted color and saturation that was not true to the flower.
Digital started to come into its own a few years back, and I tried it. Photography really took off for me. I was able to color match with the flowers in hand and replicate their reality. I started to really learn what F-stops were all about.
When I would pollinate in the field, hummingbirds were all around. I started trying to photograph them. Hard!!! I needed faster camera and lenses. Now my camera and lenses are worth more than my cars!!!
The Hummers led to other birds, animals, bugs and landscapes and I love it!
My wife has lovingly put up with me and photographs by my side(not always at 5AM). Better yet she gets my experience cameras and I have good reason to get a new one.
We try to take photo excursions as frequently as possible.
We print and sell a few photographs primarily at galleries and art shows. We also have added a website, madesonphotography.com.
Every day is truly a beautiful experience in seeing the beauty we have all around us.
