I'm a teacher and quilter. The last few years my quilting has been focused on the making of miniature quilts, playing around with a new technique that is precise, easy, and fast. My book on this technique, Miniatures in Minutes (published by C&T Publishing), was released in January 09. Meanwhile, I'm still loving making even more miniatures.

In my "work" work life, I teach literature and writing at the local university. I've been married to a wonderful man for over 32 years now, and we have two sons. The other important member of the family is, of course, the dog -- who brings us much joy and is widely spoiled for it.

I've been a quilter for a long time now. I'm not sure exactly how long. A little over twenty years? I love quilts. I love many kinds of quilts. One of my first loves was 19th century quilts and I still love making reproduction quilts based in that century. But I also love contemporary quilts as well. I'm delighted by the recent rise of modern quilts -- I love the clean lines and the often improvisational nature of them. I love the fabrics current designers are coming up with -- fantastic bold and colorful patterns as well as great conversational prints. They are fun and beautiful both.

The truth is, there aren't many quilts that I don't like. I suppose I'm not a great fan of 30's reproductions since they often tend to go a little too pastel and cute for me. I, for the most part, am not a big fan of country kitsch quilts. Of course, I don't really dislike any of these -- they just aren't what I put up in my own house.

Over the last few years I've had a lot of fun participating in on line swaps here at Flickr. I love the creativity of these swaps -- the quilts are so original and so creative. I love, love, love the variety of really unique designs that are made. I love the wonky houses, the incredible chair quilts, the stitch portraits, the bold use of contemporary fabric designers. All I can says is, Wow.
