Alan is a freelance landscape and natural history photographer, based in Hove, England. In March 2011, Alan published his first book, My Doorstep in Pictures, a 120 page hardback book featuring stunning photographs of Brighton, the South Downs, Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. All images, videos and text are © Alan Mackenzie and must not be used without written permission from the author.

Alan does not supply pictures for free in exchange for "credit", "a special mention" or "exposure", just so a business can make money out of them. Walk into a supermarket, load up the trolley and ask the cashier if you can have the groceries for free in exchange for "crediting" the store as a source of free groceries on the internet. Observe the response to your "generous" offer to invite anyone and everyone along to freeload at the shop. And if you want cheap pictures, you've come to the wrong place. I might just walk into Park Cameras and ask to buy the Canon EOS 1D X for £200, using the excuse that I have to fund everything out of my own wallet...or I'm a charity...or other retailers charge £5300 for it...

I like adding novices as contacts, because I can enjoy watching them improve over the years. I was once a novice and my pictures were just as hit and miss as yours.

Please refrain from self-promotion in the comment boxes. All such comments will be deleted, as will HTML banners and flashing icons. I'd prefer to read what you actually think of my photographs.

Please do not post comments that contain invitations to "Post 1 Award 1, 2, 3, 4...9" groups. I don't want my photostream clogged with codswallop, such as "I saw your OUTSTANDING photo in 101 Ways To Serve Mango Chutney P1/A3 Sweeper On". I am not interested in receiving "awards", "daggers", "shields" and "medallions" either. These emblems are just self-serving advertisements for the groups that created them. They do nothing to help me improve my photography or provide feedback.
