Internet Redux Randomized

The content for Internet Redux Randomized is generated using only downloads from Google Image Search. I download the top 50 Google Image Search results for a particular word that could describe images in a very general way, such as "animals" or "holiday". Each of these images is then overlayed at 50 percent opacity onto another randomly selected image downloaded via the same process, but using a different search term. Because random pairs of images are combined, unexpected new imagery can be generated from pre-existing online content. This process produces massive amounts of uninteresting and valueless imagery as a byproduct, but various forms of curation can be employed to uncover "diamonds in the rough". I am in the process of making the combined images available online, so that users can copy and redistribute the images they like. This has the potential to act as a kind of natural selection of imagery. The better images will emerge from the total set by being viewed, scrutinized or copied more often by users. The superior, or at least more popular, imagery is in a sense rewarded with a legacy on websites, in search engines, or in the minds of viewers.
