My name is Iris and I have a Fine Arts background in painting and taught art K-12 in Philadelphia public schools for 15+years.

I have always been an expressive style artist making bold statements and choosing vivid shapes and colors. Throughout the years I have worked with many mediums and have come to a certain understanding and appreciation for beads. They are my new paint!!

This does not preclude my acrylic work and regular paintings by all means. It's my new baby and I'm loving every painstaking minute of it.

My patience has been heightened over the last five years as I have health issues and no longer can get around like I once did. My art has been my sustenance as is my family who sustains me emphatically. Three glorious sons, a wonderful husband and a sweet as sugar doggie named Jake.

Flickr has been a source of comfort and reinforcement in an otherwise solitary art experience. The sharing of ideas, thoughts and work is wonderful and I am so grateful for this venue.

Since I am relegated to my home more; I have done work that I would never have been able to concentrate on... let alone have the tenacity to perservere.

There are reasons for what happens in life and this may be my RAISON D'ETRE!

I really have to add my writing of poems as they have become my signature response on flickr. I started writing poems for my husband about 23 years ago and it has been a fun activity ever since. For all my children's birthdays I create a poem and for hubby too. Over the years friends have received them for special occasions and I just keep doing them.

It hit me one day to write one for Anna, Tesoro's cookies and history was in the making. She was my first and I haven't stopped yet.

Definitely good brain exercise and that's important always...we're not getting younger!!!
