My New Profile Picture & Buddy Icon
Flickr has changed my photographic life. It has inspired me, challenged me, opened my eyes to the world around me and introduced me to some of the most amazing people.

The reason I am on Flickr is to grow as an artist and to share the love of photography with like-minded people. I am not interested in equipment, sharpness, egos or one-upmanship. I do care about inspiration, expression, emotion, composition, feeling, feedback, constructive critique and sharing. I am not interested in number of views, big flashy logos and repetitive comments. I aim to have ongoing, constructive, informative dialogue with friends. Most of all I'm looking for constructive criticism on my work, I really want to develop and grow as an artist.

As you're here, I'm guessing you want to know more about me and my photography. I am a married father of two, living on the edge of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, UK. I work as an account director for BT Global Services. I am a keen reader, amateur theatre performer and photographer. I love words, writing, big descriptions, learning and understanding. Everyday is a school day. I also like a laugh and a joke. Oh and I go on a bit, but then you've probably worked that out already. For more 'interesting' facts - I've been tagged here and here.

My strong desire is to try and keep a rich and varied photostream. I rarely post more than a picture a week and try to make sure there is variety both of content and of style, processing method and feel. I've included 5 shots below that cover some of my favourite posts but I'd suggest you look at my Explored set, my 52-week self portrait set and my Experimental Monday set to get a better flavour.

Comments, suggestions, and new friends are always encouraged! If I've added you as a contact, it means I've spent some time on your photostream, I find your work inspiring, and I want to know when you're adding more - I value interaction and I watch and try to comment on photos by all my contacts. If you add me as a contact without having commented on anything in my stream, I probably won't add you back. I try to keep a lower number of contacts so I can have the time to interact with each of them. If you do add me and have commented and I haven't added you back or even come to see you, don't worry, I will get around to it, it just may take some time. Keep commenting and you'll jump up the priority list. I feel some of the above sounds a little arrogant, but I only have so much time (and I'm kind of near the limit already) and I'd rather spend quality time with fewer people than scattering favourites and repetitive meaningless comments everywhere. I hope you understand.

    Step23 says:

"The thing that I enjoy most about Lee is his insatiable need to learn and to explore. To try new things and go a step further each time. He pushes himself for more...and he achieves it. That's really incredible to me. Add on top of that the outcomes that Lee arrives with, and you've got a really wonderful rich stream of photography. It's never the same. It's never dull. And it's always filled with the most wonderful commentary by Lee. There is such life here.

Besides that...just take one look at any of his self-portraits and try not to smile. I dare ya. :)"

"Level Lee has an amazing photostream. He is one of the first contacts I really talked to and was always excited to see what new photos he had to post. With his advice I've tried new techniques I wouldn't have tried on my own. I don't know if I've gotten any better, but I certainly have gotten braver thanks to Lee and others that have shown support on Flickr. Lately I really love Lee's Experimental Monday. Great photographer and friend."

kpriceWicked (signing off for the summer) says:

"What I love most about Lee is the time he spends writing comments. He really thinks about the photo, how it makes him feel, what he likes/dislikes, etc. While I may not always agree with him, I love the fact that he tells me what he thinks... not just "nice composition" or "great shot", etc.

I've enjoyed watching Lee grow as a photographer too. He has come up with some amazing images, and I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks for ALL the comments Lee; it's been a joy knowing you here on flickr.

"Lee turned down a career as a professional baseball player in the US to pursue his love of photography. And also to work on his truck. For that, I salute him. Well played Lee Stephens. Well played."
