Greetings to my Flickr Family. A few years ago Penny and I surprised each other by turning 50 - I keep telling myself that it all happened one day at a time but it seems to be getting harder to believe it.

Lately, I've been doing a lot of infrared work (well, really it almost all I've been doing!). I converted an old Canon G6 to IR only (and that was an interesting exercise! I got all the parts back in but the camera took a couple of disassemble-reassemble cycles before I got it to work... *sigh*) and it has been the most fun ever since! Thanks to the inspiration of some of my flickrites, I have begun to explore photo-builds that are able to better express the ideas, longings, and visions that pop into my head from time to time. Once an idea germinates, I begin by photographing elements and back-drops that I will need. I use photoshop to assemble all the parts. I have to say that I have never had so much fun with my photography!

I found Flickr and I have been enthralled! It is the people here and the sense of community (a community that covers the globe! - always amazing to me!) that keeps me coming back. The work that all you folk are posting is very very inspirational for me (and I thank you for that inspiration). For further motivation, please check out my list of contacts. Each one has something wonderful to offer in their photostream - you will not be disappointed. I look at their work and it is full of surprises and delights - what could be better?

If you stop by, fave an image, or make me one of your contacts - Thank you! I really do appreciate it - but please don't fave or contact and run, stay a moment and say hi, i am really here for the conversation and i would love to have a bit with you.

cheers, my friends.

"I've commented on many of Mark's photos, but now i think that it's time to finally write a testimonial.

most photos that i see here on flickr fall under three categories:
    1) sucky, boring snapshots
    2) pretentious gear-head pro-wannabe "masterpieces"
    3) one-trick pony shots

i fall under category #2, with my fancy-ass gear. Mark, however, doesn't fall under any category and that is simply the mark (haw haw!) of consistent, creative genius.

the overwhelming plethora of flickr photos evoke little (or no) emotion or higher concept. today, we aim for sterile perfection at the 100%-pixel-level; we forget the big picture: the photo itself and the emotion and thought it evokes/ provokes. i dare say that in many ways, digital photography cripples many peoples' creative urges. Mark has countered this harmful trend.

Mark, thanks for reminding me that i don't need $10,000+ of photographic equipment to capture a thought or emotion. thanks for the hard work you've put into capturing these photos and post-processing them into your vision. and don't even think of posting a kind testimonial on my flickr, in response to this one :). you definitely stand on your own merits!

    all the best,

    Simon"

"This unique and creative artist is somewhat different from me; yet not really. I find that I am constantly drawn back to his photos- his unique perspective and creative vision. What I really like about Mark is his ability not to categorize reality, you will be amazed at his constant creative genious in each and every shot ~ and you will never be dissapointed! I have such a sense that he sees the world as a "whole" and he is definitely "walking in beauty." I truly admire his work- and subsequently, admire him."

"I'm surprised I'm the first to write a testimonial about Mark's amazing photography. Imagine if you had wings --Mark shows you how the world would look -- and it's absolutely fantastic. My only complaint is I wish he'd post more often (ahem) hint hint. Truly wonderful stream. ;)"
