I am a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Washington State University and Director of the Institute for Sustainable Design. Building on my research in the design, production, and use of sustainable building materials, I am now coordinating WSU efforts toward the design of sustainable build environments. For over a decade, have led research teams to develop novel building materials for the US Navy’s efforts to lower toxic chemical exposure from docks, piers, and other shoreline structures. In addition, I am a member of various teams developing technical and research roadmaps for the US efforts in establishing integrated bio-refineries that will produce fuels, chemicals, polymers, and nano-materials using cellulosic feedstocks.
