I'm an animal lover, vegetarian, and a bit of a workaholic. I am obsessive about my work, and often find myself immersed in processing images late into the wee hours (hey, its the only time of day that the phone ISN'T ringing!). I'm passionate about horses and photography to a fault. I HATE cold and snow, and yet I find myself out in a -14 degree blinding blizzard so I can get a shot where the light is *perfect* and the mane is blowing just right. Yes, I'm missing a finger due to frostbite, thank you very much (no, not really...but some days it sure does seem like I should be). I have an obsession with learning as much as I can, trying new things with my work, and admiring and learning from the work of others to improve my art. I always welcome constructive advice from people with more experience - so if you are kind enough to share your knowledge with me then I would be both flattered and grateful. I take great pleasure in capturing special moments for special people and insuring that the images are perfect. I told you I was obsessive about my work... ☺

My current equipment (some owned, some borrowed, some checked out via a generous program that my school has with Canon) consists of the following: my main camera body is a Canon 5D Mark II, with a 450D in the lineup for the dirty work (!), and I'm currently shooting with the 5D Mark II and a Hasselblad for my studio work. I exclusively use Canon lenses. My collection consists of a kit lens (which never makes it on my camera) 28-80 mm f3.5/5.6, the Canon 50 mm f/1.4 (LOVE it), Canon's 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (which is on my camera most often for equine and canine shoots), and a variety of L series and prime Canon lenses (THANK YOU, CANON!!!). I also have a wide angle and macro lens that I don't use enough, and my newest additions - a couple of modified Holgas that I shoot with, a passle of hideous digitial cameras that are for emergencies only (eek!), and a salvaged Sears Tower folding camera with a 110 mm lens that shoots 120 or 620 film. (The jury is still out on that one, but I'm going to keep shooting with it for kicks and giggles and see what happens). I have a great little lighting kit that is perfect for my current work - the 580EX II, and a pair of 620M Flashpoint monolights with various modifiers from Adorama (BTW, their customer service is top notch and I highly recommend them).

On a personal note, my husband and I own a successful natural hoof care practice, which explains why my Photostream is crammed with images of hooves. Pardon my fetish, but a beautiful, well-cared for, healthy equine foot makes my little heart sing. Everyone has their quirks. For those who are interested, you can find us on the internet at www.NakedHoofCare.com. We own a small farm in Michigan, and currently have five horses. They are all sick of me photographing them, but on the bright side, none of them spook when the strobe goes off.

All of my work is offered for sale. If you have a favorite image that you would like a print of, I can make it happen for you. Please contact me to discuss print sizes, papers, finishes, mounting, and prices. I am currently accepting work for equine, portrait, and corporate clients in south-eastern Michigan - contact me to discuss details, availability, and pricing. You can e-mail me directly at: LauraAdamsPhotographicArt@live.com

On the business end of things - ALL of my work is copyrighted. I ask that everyone respect that. I am more than happy to work with people who want to use my images for commercial purposes, and I have contracts for just that circumstance. Taking my intellectual property without permission is tantamount to stealing, and it makes me very...disagreeable. ;)

I look forward to seeing your work, and hopefully our paths will cross more than once in the wonderful world of Flickr.

PLEASE NOTE: I *LOVE* all of my Flickr friends, but with work, school, horses, and every day life on top of all of that, it can be hard to keep up with everyone on Flickr. I make a point of keeping up to date on the work of everyone in my contact list, and comment and fave frequently and generously. Having said that, my contact list has grown and I find myself spending an incredible amount of time on Flickr trying to keep up with everyone. In an attempt to get things back to a more manageable level, I hope you don't mind if I don't reciprocate by adding you as a contact immediately. I'd like to try and weed out the folks that are "contact collectors", and keep a smaller, active, and engaged contact list. If you've added me as a contact and started to regularly comment and keep up with my work, I would be more than happy to do the same in kind. If you stop in for a peek now and again, and comment once in a while, I'd be more than happy to look at your work, once in a while, too - but I don't have the time to look at endless Photostreams (I wish I did!). It is absolutely nothing personal, just a matter of time management and investment in the Flickr experience.

Thank you to Absolute Michigan and Leelanau Publications for choosing my photo, "When Snow Falls..." as their pick for their Photo Friday picture of the week on Friday, January 8, 2010. You can view their publication, and the wonderful page they put together for the image here: www.absolutemichigan.com/dig/michigan/photo-friday-when-s...

"A truly passionate woman, this shines through her work. She goes above and beyond the call to achieve that certain pic that she has in mind, even if it means braving through sub-zero temps and going out of her way to get the perfect light. Her love of horses shines through her work as she captures genuine works of art. I was particularily moved by her series of shots of women models. She captured the essence of their beauty and proved that beauty comes in all sizes, shapes and ages. I am very impressed.
The consummate professional in every sense, her passion for photography is inspirational, as she never lets the grass grow under her feet. Experimenting and always keeping an eye open for that one-of-a-kind shot, she is a true inspiration to me and many others. I thank GOD for Blessing me with such a fantastic friend who inspires me to get out and shoot again. This is important to me, as there are times when depression gets the best of me and as a result, the love of my life...photography...gets put on the back-burner. Thank you Laura with all my heart for inspiring me to use my camera again. Keep up the great work!"

"Laura has a wonderful ability to capture some of natures most amazing creatures (horses) in a way that you can't help but fall in love with them. Unlike many on Flickr (me included) she hasn't uploaded thousands of pictures, but the ones that she has shared with us ooze quality and an artistry that I am in awe of. She leaves thoughtful and inspiring comments on other people's work, and I'm proud to have Laura as a Flickr friend."
