¿Adónde estará segura
mi vida por donde voy,
si cada paso que doy
es sobre mi sepultura?
P. Calderón de la Barca

I took my first photo when I was 11 years old. I took occasional photos all my life, but it wasn`t until early in 2006, when I suddenly discovered flickr, that my photographic experience changed radically. I have evolved a lot since then: one can see that very clearly by comparing my first photos on flickr to the more recent ones. I sometimes think it would be a good idea to get rid of the older ones (they suck, I`m aware of it)...but after all I prefer to leave them where they are...they trace my evolution through time and remind me of the efforts I accomplished to improve my style.
I feel I owe a lot to flickr and, most of all, to my very good friend Cécile, herself a wonderful photographer and artist, who helped me with her advice, comments, critiques, hints, tutorials...it would have been very different without her.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, that depends on how you see it) I`m a very late bloomer...and I will not have the time to accomplish even the slightest part of what I have in mind...but that`s life, and there`s nothing one can do about it.
Photography is a wonderful medium of artistic expression...and I really disagree when somebody seems to believe that it should have some ridiculous kind of inferiority complex toward other forms of art; on the other hand, I do believe that the photographic medium should not be subject to restrictions of any kind, so long as the results are there to justify it.
And I do believe that photography is a wonderful way of getting closer to other human beings and to the reality of our world.
As far as I`m concerned, the only restriction I impose on myself is that the "raw material" should come out of my camera...what I do with it in subsequent stages is legitimate to me so long as it`s a way of expressing my personal and most intimate feelings. That`s all there`s to it!!!
My equipment:
- Nikon DSLR D3x
- Nikon DSLR D300
- 10-20mm Sigma Lens
- 18-70mm Nikon Lens
- 24-70mm Nikon Lens
- 18-200mm Nikon Lens
- 70-200mm Nikon Lens
- 70-300mm Sigma Lens
- 120-400mm Sigma Lens
- 50mm Nikon Lens
- 105mm Micro Nikkor Lens
- Soligor Fish-Eye Attachment Lens
- SB-800 Nikon Flash
and, last but not least:
- Canon Powershot G9
I haven't used my Canon G9 much lately, although I can much more easily keep a low profile when I shoot people in public areas, such as restaurants, subway, and many others. I'm afraid I've become too addicted to my Nikon DSLRs.
I have never used a tripod...although I own one. This is a very bad habit, I know...but I always say to myself that I`ll do it the next time...;-)
One last word about copyright: I am not a professional photographer and I don`t make a living with my photos, at least not in a material way. They are mine...because I made them...and that`s something no one can take away from me. But, once they have been released into the world, they acquire a personality of their own...they are free. I strongly resent the possessiveness and greed associated with the sense of private property...and I am convinced that mankind would be much happier with a little less selfishness and self-centeredness. Therefore, you may do whatever you like with my photos...I can only be flattered if you use them, with or without my previous consent. And of course I`d be delighted to be kept informed.
I have recently published a book with a selection of my early photos: it can be viewed at the following address:
www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/99214

I have recently posted a few photos on a new website, which in a very ample and articulate way deals with communication and the symbols of human interaction. The site is the work of a team directed by my good friend Vitória Falabella, a very talented photographer and artist.
You may reach it at the following address:
www.acasadapedra.com.br/vozsilencio.htm
And, while I`m at it, I want my Flickr friends to know that, since I have a very active social life and take tons of photos at many of the events, I recently opened a new Flickr account, where I post photographs I feel are not fit for my main account (because they are mostly taken as a souvenir, or to share them with others, with no time to do any editing). If you want to have a look, you can reach it at:

Big Grey Mare ~ Back--But Barely says:
"I've known Luigi for some time now, and he's been a wonderful friend to have. Visiting his photostream is like visiting an art museum. It's an intense, advanced course in photography. The man is brilliant, and he's an artist. He knows how to touch human emotions, and his work takes you on a rollercoaster ride with the deepest of deeps and the highest of highs, and all you can do is sit there and scream for dear life, because he is the master, and the one in control. I love this man, and I love his work! I think he is a genius, and his work is a world treasure. He is my treasure!!"

"Luigi is a brilliant photographer, with a soft and loving touch; his appreciation of his subjects comes through with every image. He has also proven to be a role model and mentor (though he doesn't know it) as I try to approach the excellence of his technique.
Thank you, Luigi, for being there for us."20th October, 2007
